Columbus Day Revised invites viewers to nominate alternative historical figures to celebrate instead of Christopher Columbus.
The installation includes a video component with text that reads, “Christopher Columbus Did Not Discover America” and “Nominate a New Person To Celebrate Every October”
A scroll of receipt paper and markers are placed on a table, along with a didactic label instructing viewers to write and draw historical figures to celebrate.
The first incarnation of Columbus Day Revised involved interaction with dozens of viewers, who drew and wrote many names: Chelsea Manning, Lief Erickson, Hunter S. Thompson, Montezuma, Edward Snowden, Einstein, Jackie Robinson, and more.
