Mikey is a multi-disciplinary conceptual artist (intervention, sound, video, mark-making, installation, social engagement) who emphasizes the creation of experiences over objects. His life experiences have allowed him to travel and live in a wide range of locations, within a variety of cultures. Born in Miami in 1986, Mikey has also lived in Southern California, Chicago, North Carolina, Florida, and currently in Utah.
His academic background includes credits from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, University of Denver, Florida State University, and a Masters of Fine Art from Utah State University, where his area of emphasis was and art integrated with and influenced by Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Prior to moving to Utah, Mikey was an art and music educator, as well as songwriter and performer for music/sound art project Mikey’s Imaginary Friends. These endeavors shaped his current studio art practice as participatory, interactive, socially engaged, and multi-disciplinary.
He also works as an educator at the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art.
